After graduating from the University of Victoria with a B.A, Monica worked in South Korea as an English teacher and then moved to Australia where she completed an M.B.A. While completing her Master’s at the University of Newcastle, she began working as an account executive in the insurance industry and later as a Marine Underwriter.

While working in Sydney,  Monica was one of the original committee members of Young Shipping Australia and had an article published in the Shipping Australia Magazine. The article was primarily about issues that the Marine Industry was facing based on the retirement of senior personnel and the importance of encouraging younger employees to become involved in the development and growth of the industry.
